Township
Plans Streetscape Project in
Boalsburg
Harris
Township is pleased to be the recipient of a
transportation enhancements grant from PennDOT.
The grant will be used to complete a streetscape
project in Boalsburg.
The
Township plans to install pedestrian
accommodations on Church Street, including a new
sidewalk from the traffic signal at Boal Avenue
to the intersection of Old Boalsburg Road.
Existing sidewalk panels will also be replaced
on Church Street from Old Boalsburg Road to the
intersection with Pine Street.
In
addition to the sidewalks, a new pedestrian
crossing device will also be installed on the
traffic signal at Boal Avenue and Church Street.
This device will give pedestrians extra time to
cross Boal Avenue from the Pennsylvania Military
Museum before the traffic signal turns green for
motorists.
Work
on the project is expected to be completed in
summer 2010.
Plans
Submitted for Rockey and Homan Lands
The
Township received land development plans over
the summer for the Rockey Farm and the Homan
tract. The Rockey Farm is located on Route 45,
adjacent to Kaywood and Aspen Heights. The Homan
tract is located at the back of the existing
Kaywood development.
The
plans for the Homan tract call for the
development of 40 single family residential lots
on approximately 14 acres at the back of the
existing Kaywood development. The tract has
public sewer and water. Because of the
development’s potential impact on the existing
neighborhood, the Township has asked that the
developer perform a traffic study at several
locations inside Kaywood. The traffic study will
consider pedestrians and bicyclists, in addition
to motor vehicles.
The
developer of the Rockey Farm has submitted plans
for 12 townhouse and 9 single family units on
the 119 acre property. The land has public sewer
and water.
Last
December, the Board of Supervisors approved an
amendment for lands zoned agricultural that are
located inside the public sewer service area. As
the Rockey Farm meets this definition, the
developer is eligible for a reduction in the
amount of open space required on the tract if
workforce housing is proposed. At this time, no
workforce units are proposed, though the
developer has indicated she may propose
workforce house units in a future land
development plan.
The
Township has created email groups to keep
interested residents informed on the progress on
these plans. If you would like to be included on
these lists, please email Township Manager Amy
Farkas at akfarkas@comcast.net.
